My mother used to put a couple of drops of lavender oil on my pillow every night. We used to call it “sweet dreams”, but a young kid announcing “Mom puts sweet dreams on my pillow every night” raised a few concerns with the faculty at school. I imagine they thought my mother was using chloroform, but I’m also happy they were concerned and thought to ask about it. Some schools look after their public image more than they look after their students.
My mom showed them the bottle and explained that it was aromatherapy. It was pretty popular after that. While I was in brownies, several of the other girls asked for a couple of drops on their pillows at camp. The whole room smelled of lavender!
One bottle of the stuff lasts a very long time. You only need a drop or two, though this brand smells stronger than the one I remember as a child. I try to only use one drop because of that. You may find after a while that your pillow case is a bit stained too.
I’ve heard that you can put it in the bath as well, but I haven’t tried it, personally. Also, apparently lavender tea is a thing, but I wouldn’t recommend you use the extract for that. I’m actually surprised it’s available in a form that’s intended for consumption at all.
If you’re looking to try lavender oil, I’d recommend checking your local health food store, bulk barn, or ask at a specialty store that carries incense. I’ve never bought it online before so if you have, feel free to share your experience in the comments! I’d love to hear which shops you’ve found it in, as I’m interested in trying other brands.
Until next time,
